How Icynene Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

• Icynene Classic (open-cell) shrinkage and gaps. Open-cell foam expands into wall cavities, but on Hayward homes built in the early 2000s, we regularly find that the foam has pulled back from studs and top plates by a quarter-inch or more. That gap is a straight highway for the marine air that blows in off the Bay. The fix isn’t spraying more foam – it’s dense-packing the void with blown-in cellulose at 3.5 pounds per cubic foot, which locks the cavity tight and stops air movement.
