The homeowner told us the back bedrooms were always ten degrees hotter than the rest of the house. We found soffit-to-attic airflow pulling hot air through the walls and about four inches of settled insulation that had been doing very little for years. Our crew air sealed the top plates and penetrations, then blew GreenFiber to a consistent R-38. The back bedrooms settled within two degrees of the rest of the house within a week. Same footprint, completely different feel.
Spray Foam in a Crawl Space That Never Warmed Up
This house near Mission Boulevard had a crawl space that acted like a refrigerator under the living room. We installed Icynene closed-cell foam on the foundation walls, sealed the vents, and laid a reinforced vapor barrier over the dirt. The floors stopped feeling icy in January and the furnace finally got to rest between cycles. Crawl space work never photographs as dramatically as an attic, but the comfort difference is the same order of magnitude.
Radiant Barrier in a Hayward Hills Attic
Attics in the Hayward Hills take direct western sun with no shade relief. This attic was hitting 130 degrees, and the air conditioner was fighting heat that never needed to enter the house in the first place. We stapled radiant barrier to the underside of the rafters. The attic came down about twenty degrees on an average summer afternoon, and the upstairs stopped feeling like a second floor sauna around dinnertime.
Insulation Removal After a Rodent Problem
A tenant in the Glen Eden neighborhood noticed scratching sounds and called us after finding droppings in the attic hatch. We removed every bit of contaminated insulation, sanitized the space, sealed the entry points, and blew in fresh Owens Corning. Rodents are a fact of life in Hayward with all the mature trees we have, but a sealed attic leaves them nowhere to hide and nothing to nest in.
Wall Insulation in a 1950s Stucco Home
There are thousands of 1950s stucco homes in Hayward with zero insulation in the walls. This one off Tennyson Road had plaster over empty stud bays. We drilled from the exterior, dense-packed Knauf into every cavity, and patched the holes clean. The house held heat in December for the first time since it was built, and the street noise dropped noticeably too. Wall insulation is the quiet upgrade nobody sees, but everybody feels.
Attic Air Sealing Before New Insulation
We did this job for a family near Southland Mall who were paying to heat and cool their attic more than their living room. We found gaps around recessed lights, plumbing vents, and the chimney chase, all pulling conditioned air straight up. Sealing those leaks took our crew most of a day, and the blower door test showed a 30 percent improvement before we even added insulation.
